Final day. Didn’t get up to much but a pal did come around and help me tweek the gears on my bike.
Reviewing the week: it’s been good but in ways I didn’t expect. I am a lot more confident on my bike around Edinburgh (despite quality of the roads) and glad to know there is so much more for me to explore. Learnt a good deal more about the history of Edinburgh, Leith and Scotland. And finally got around to learning the habit of processing digital photos and publishing them (I also got some use out of that flickr account I’ve been paying for).
I certainly didn’t get anywhere near visiting all of the graveyards in Edinburgh but was surprised and pleased by the ones I did. The highlights are the North Leith Churchyard and Greyfriar’s Kirkyard. I think the New Calton Burial Ground deserves more time, but was scared off by a troll. Disapointed I didn’t make it to the Deen Cemetery or Dalry Cemetery but the biggest disappointment is missing out on the Chapel of the Hammermen. One more for the future.
The most successful days were Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but it started to tail off a little after that. Couple of reasons, the weather dropping off certainly had its effect but also my lack of planning. The weather meant that I couldn’t just step out of the door, pedal off and make things up as I went along. For the first three days I was also able to do this from things I have been thinking about for years. But once that was all gone and the weather had turned I lost my rhythm.
If I was to do this again I think I will look out for what events are on. Friends suggested a few and there is always plenty of things happening in Edinburgh. If you have any suggestions let me know!
